The categories of prostatitis
Acute type
intensive symptoms, fever
I. Acute bacterial prostatitis
The bacterium can be indicated through laboratory examinations, and treated with antibiotics
Chronic type
milder, more indefinite symptoms, sometimes easing up then returning
II. Chronic bacterial prostatitis
The bacterium can be cultured, but the symptoms are less explicit
Treatment of symptoms, antibiotics advised.
III. Chronic non-bacterial prostatitis
The symptoms are similar to chronic bacterial prostatitis, but a bacterium is not present, therefore antibiotics is not advised.
IV. Asymptomatic prostatitis
It is diagnosed during other examinations, or the result of a histological examination confirms it.
